SITUATION
The new SENDA Art Gallery is located in an old nave of the Morull fabric factory, built in the mid-19th century, between the street of Sant Pere Més Alt and the old city wall of Barcelona.
Access is through a building on Trafalgar Street, laid out on the old place of the city wall just where the creation of the new Ensanche starts.
The gallery enclosure is the sum of these two building typologies: old factory house and commercial ground floor of a typical building of the Ensanche of Barcelona.
INTERVENTION
The Gallery program is articulated without any fragmentation. It is a single continuous space of 41 linear meters from the street facade to the end of the premises.
This spatial sequence admits and articulates all the activities that SENDA offers:
· Art showcase to the city
· Exhibition space
· New formats and projection of new artistic values
· Knowledge
· Art management and administration
· Warehouse
In the rehabilitation the preexisting space has been valued, both in the original structure and in the atmosphere accumulated by the passage of time. For this, the use of materials in aged finishes has been minimized: black steel in pavements, no color in existing wooden beams and luminaires typical of the structure and manufacturing typology of the premises.
On this background of preexistence, a perimeter wall of 330 cm in height is the perfect immaculate white background on which the works of art can be the focus of the space. This wall is characterized in the background of the premises to place a space of knowledge with books and catalogs of the trajectory of the SENDA Gallery.
SITUACIÓN
La nueva Galería de arte SENDA está ubicada en una antigua nave de la casa-fábrica de tejidos Morull, edificada a mediados del siglo XIX, entre la calle de Sant Pere Més Alt i la antigua muralla de la ciudad de Barcelona.
El acceso es a través de una edificación de la calle Trafalgar, trazado sobre el antiguo enclave de la muralla con la creación del nuevo Ensanche.
El recinto de la Galería es la suma de estas dos tipologías edificatorias: antigua casa-fábrica y planta baja comercial de un edificio propio del Ensanche de Barcelona.
INTERVENCIÓN
El programa de la Galería se articula sin ningún tipo de fragmentación. Es un sólo espacio continuo de 41 metros lineales desde la fachada a la calle hasta la parte final del local.
Esta secuencia espacial acoge y articula todas las actividades que SENDA ofrece:
· escaparate de arte a la ciudad
· espacio expositivo
· nuevos formatos y proyección de nuevos valores artísticos
· conocimiento
· gestión y administración de arte
· almacén
En la rehabilitación se ha valorado el espacio preexistente, tanto en la estructura original como en la atmósfera acumulada por el paso del tiempo. Para ello se ha minimizado el uso de materiales en acabados envejecidos: acero negro en pavimentos, no color en vigas existentes de madera y luminarias propias de la estructura y tipología fabril del local.
Sobre este fondo de preexistencias, un paramento perimetral con una altura de 330 cm. es el fondo blanco inmaculado sobre el que las obras de arte tomarán todo el protagonismo. Este paramento se particulariza en el fondo del local para albergar un espacio de conocimiento con libros y catálogos de la trayectoria de la Galería SENDA.
