What was the house of the artist Toni Catany in Llucmajor will now become a tribute to what he was. The distributive program forces us to undo the natural structure of the old domestic space. Only the house of the photographer Tomàs Montserrat will maintain its original structure. Even so, we try to respect the original walls as much as possible, working on spaces and finishes with maximum simplicity and austerity possible, as most of both artists’ photos show.
Everything existing that is useful and coherent with the project will bring naturalness to new constructions. It is interesting to analyse to what extent it is possible to merge the new contributions with the existing set. The proposal uses marés from original walls as a new finish and material for facades, patios and interior lobby. We would like that the building conveys life and time. That is why we propose materials with a certain accelerated aging, which coexist well with their natural deterioration.
With this attitude of respect for pre-existence, facades want to value what were the main portals and old "portasses". Since we need to create a main access to all these buildings, we used "portassa" and "esquinzell", as popular and traditional elements of old Llucmajor’s houses, but we gave them a new dimension, exaggerating their size.
We seek the balance between stone massifs of existing buildings, and new buildings through fine and light metallic structures as cages. A memory of pigeons and partridges’ cages of the town that have almost disappeared.
We proposed to create a romantic garden in the inner patio where the noise of water flowing down one of the facade sides, the fish and the reflections of water will make it a pleasant place to be.
In the exhibition halls and spaces that require more aseptic finishes, we propose a technical floor with a pavement without porosity made of black iron plates (raw), varnished so that it does not require a great deal of maintenance. "Waters" and natural drawings of this mineral will provide this sensation of a "living" building.
La que fue la casa del artista Toni Catany en Llucmajor ahora se convertirá en un homenaje de lo que fue. El programa distributivo nos obliga a deshacer la estructura natural de antiguo espacio doméstico. Tan sólo la casa del fotógrafo Tomàs Montserrat mantendrá su estructura original. Aun así, intentamos respetar al máximo las paredes originales, trabajando los espacios y acabados con la máxima sencillez y austeridad posible, tal y como desprenden la mayoría de las fotografías de ambos artistas.
Todo lo existente que sea de utilidad y coherente con el proyecto, nos aportará naturalidad a las nuevas construcciones. Es interesante analizar hasta que punto es posible fusionar las nuevas aportaciones con el conjunto existente. La propuesta aprovecha el marés de los muros originales como nuevo acabado y material de fachada, patios e interior del vestíbulo. Nos gustaría que el edificio transmitiera vida y tiempo. Por eso proponemos materiales con cierto envejecimiento acelerado, que convivan bien con su deterioro natural.
Con esta actitud de respeto por las preexistencias, en fachada se quieren poner en valor los que fueron portales principales y antiguas “portases”. Ante la necesidad de crear un acceso principal al conjunto de estos edificios, utilizamos la “portassa” y el “esquinzell”, como elementos populares y tradicionales de las antiguas casas de Llucmajor, pero dotándoles de una nueva dimensión.
Buscamos el equilibrio entre los macizos de la piedra de los edificios existentes, y las nuevas edificaciones a través de finas y ligeras estructuras metálicas a modo de jaulas. Un recuerdo en las jaulas de palomas y perdices del pueblo que ya casi han desaparecido.
Se propone crear un jardín romántico en el patio interior donde el ruido del agua que baja por uno de los lados de fachada, los peces y los reflejos del agua harán que sea un lugar agradable para estar.
En las salas de exposiciones y espacios que requieran unos acabados más asépticos, proponemos un suelo técnico con un pavimento sin porosidad de planchas de hierro negro (en crudo), barnizado para que no requiera un gran mantenimiento. Las texturas naturales del mineral reforzarán esta sensación de edificio "vivo".
